Auditions: Robin Hood and His Merry Men
Sunday August 17th, 2008 - Tuesday August 19th, 2008
Information:
Morpheus Theatre is pleased to announce upcoming auditions for it’s British pantomime production of

ROBIN HOOD & HIS MERRY MEN
Directed by Vicki Wiseman

Before we go any further, there is something you should understand: there is absolutely no miming in British pantomimes. None. Absolutely none. None at all. Ever. We promise. Traditionally it’s a high-energy comedy that contains silly songs, jokes you can see coming a mile away and lots of audience participation (mostly in the form of booing the bad guys).

Now that this bit of important information is out of the way, on with the rest of the notice.

Open auditions for all roles will take place:
Sunday August 17 (12:00 to 4:00pm)
Monday August 18 (7:00 to 9:30pm) and
Tuesday August 19 (7:00 to 9:30pm)
Callbacks will possibly be Tuesday August 26th.
at the Community Arts Centre
2633 Hochwald Avenue SW
(Building A3 - former Currie Barracks)

Dates of the production: November 6 – 9, 2008 in the Easterbrook Theatre

**Please prepare one verse and the chorus of a song and a 60-sec comedic monologue**
A CD/tape player will be provided. If you’re trying out for a non-singing role, you don’t have to prepare a song for your audition.
* Please bring your resume and headshot to the audition

We are looking to cast the following characters, all ages 16 and up (sadly, no accents are required):
THE BADIES
Prince John (male)
The evil ruler of England, John is more of a comic bad buy than the Sheriff. A singing part.
The Sheriff (male)
The real bad buy of the play, truly evil through and through and enjoys being cruel to the peasants. Be prepared to be booed on a nightly basis. A singing part.
The Guards Craig and David (2 males)
A typical inept comic duo that provide a lot of the physical comedy.
THE GOODIES
Jim (Gymkhana Thatch) (female)
A girl who disguises herself as a boy to join the Merry Men so she can rescue her parents. She’s brave, although a little nervous.
Ellen (or Alan) A-Dale
A minstrel who turns up to explain the plot and offer advice to those in trouble. She, or he, speaks exclusively in rhyme, which seems infectious as she, or he, passes the habit on to everyone else in the scene.
Will Scarlet (male)
One of the principal Merry Men. Will is a typical good guy, flamboyant, sarcastic and rather self-centered but is probably a lot smarter than the rest of the Merry Men.
Little John (male)
Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb but no size requirement.
Friar Tuck (male)
A little more down to earth than the rest of the Merry Men but still eccentric.
Robin Hood (male)
Brave, good and a traditionally principal part with comic moments. A singing part.
Nurse Jemime Gusset (male)
Our typical pantomime dame (a man in drag), she’s constantly on the lookout for a man, any man but preferably the Sheriff of Nottingham. A singing part.
Maid Marion (female)
Robin Hood’s childhood sweetheart, she is occasionally bad tempered, or just plan rude, but is quite capable of taking care of herself, thank you very much. A singing part.
Daisy, the cow
Daisy doesn’t talk because Daisy is a cow but Daisy does dance, or something to that effect.
Various Townspeople
You’ll have some lines but mostly fill in the crowd scenes.
