Symons Valley Players was founded in 1995 by Ann Crawford as a Dessert Theatre production company with performances in the former Beddington location of Symons Valley United Church. In 2008 the church moved to its current Kincora location, featuring a purpose-built auditorium with a large stage, theatre lighting and tiered audience seating to accommodate guests at tables at its Dessert / Dinner Theatre performances.
Each year the Symons Valley Players mount one production in early May, formerly focusing on musical comedies, but now featuring comedy plays - usually with an element of mystery thrown in! Thursday night, Friday night, and Sunday matinee performances feature hand-crafted desserts ordered by guests from a menu of delicious possibilities. In addition to the dessert offerings, the Saturday night performance features a tantalizing slow-roasted beef dinner. Wine and beer are available for purchase at the evening performances. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and hearing assistance headsets may be requested by guests.
One of the underlying goals of this theatre group is building community, both within the congregation and with people in the surrounding area of north Calgary. Another goal is to have lots of fun while mounting a credible - and humorous - theatre production each year.
